Since March of 2020, each of you, our families and communities have, and continue to, battle a pandemic that has impacted everyone's lives. 

 Yesterday’s events at the Capitol will add additional stress to each of you and certainly questions from our students. As educators, we cannot take a political stance with our students, but we cannot ignore current events. 

 When difficult conversations come up or questions arise it's ok to not have all of the answers. What is important is that we listen to our students' questions and have conversations about current events. During these conversations it is vital that we show our colleagues and our students compassion and empathy while reinforcing appropriate behavior and communication for students and adults. 

 Please make sure students feel safe and take advantage of age appropriate "teachable moments" in the days and weeks ahead.
