North Greene Jr. High/High School

Thursday after school, the NGJH Nature Club traveled along the Hillview /Eldred blacktop stopping at a few of the unique destinations in Greene County. First stop was the rock quarry along the Greene / Scott County line. Behind the bluff we viewed the rock layers (sedimentary rock) and the amount of rock missing. We also observed the clouds and discussed the weather to come! Next we stopped at a natural spring coming out of the bluff to get a drink. We also checked out the (remaining ) Sweeten Mansion and the Eldred Mansion. A bit of history about the families who lived there around the Civil War era peaked the students’ interest. Next we crossed the Il. River via the ferry. Turkey Buzzards flew overhead while we listened to bird calls, saw animal tracks, found bones, skimmed rocks, and looked for whole shells along the river front. We topped this adventure with a meal from Hillview Cafe ( Fat Eddies.)

Congratulations to our newly inducted North Greene HS National Honor Society members.

The North Greene High School softball game scheduled for today (3/27) at home vs Payson-Seymour has been cancelled due to field conditons. A reschedule date is pending. There will be no softball practice today.

One of the best parts of our school is that learning isn’t limited to the classroom. Fresh air, sunshine, and outdoor learning moments remind us that education can happen anywhere.
